It is unknown, however, what the prevalence of renal damage due to UTI is in SCI patients. Methods: Eleven SCI patients without UTI history and 41 SCI patients with UTI history only received technetium-99m dimercaptosuccinic acid (Tc-DMSA) renal cortex scan were included in this study to evaluate whether UTI influences the prevalence of renal damage in SCI patients. Results: Among 52 SCI patients, 33 (63.5%) of SCI patient had abnormal Tc-DMSA renal scan findings. The SCI patients with UTI history had a significantly higher prevalence of abnormal Tc renal cortex scan findings than those without UTI history (P value < 0.05). Conclusion: We found that Tc-DMSA renal scan is a safe and noninvasive urological screening test to detect renal damage in SCI patients in this preliminary study.

Early detection of renal scarring in children with suspected pyelonephritis: Comparison of diuretic MAG3 scintigraphy (F0) and DMSAScan
Abstract Background: Screening for patients at risk of renal scarring is a challenge in children with acute pyelonephritis (APN). Diuretic Tc-99m mercaptoacetyltriglycine (MAG3) scintigraphy with zero time injection of furosemide (MAG3-F0) was observed to display focal parenchymal disorders. The advantages of MAG3 include: lower radiation dose and short duration of the test. The aim of this st...

Urinary tract infection (UTI) is a common disease in childhood specially in female. In this study 50 patients with stablished diagnosis of UTI were evaluated by both renal scan with Tc-99m DMSA and renal sonography. The study revealed that most urinary tract infections are in children, Female sex between 5-9 years of age. Therefore the most important complications (Renal scarring) are als...
متن کاملuse of 99m Tc-DMSA scintigraphy in assessment of renal complications of COVID-19
ABSTRACT COVID-19 mainly affects respiratory and immune systems, but other organs like renal, cardiovascular, lung and nervous systems could also be involved in both acute and chronic settings (1, 2). There is a lot of studies that demonstrate an increasing number of long COVID-19 who continue to experience persistent symptoms weeks or even months after the initial disease. Reports suggest...
متن کاملThe comparison between ultrasonography and 99mTc-DMSA renal scan in estimation of kidney size
Introduction: Renal length measurement is an important diagnostic clue in several urinary tract abnormalities. Although ultra sonography is the most frequent used modality for renal size estimation, renal diameter assessment by 99mTc-DMSA scintigraphy is of great value. By now, pointing to the renal size in the 99mTc-DMSA scintigraphy report has not been recommended by gui...

Background: Urinary tract infection is a common bacterial infection in children and may lead to irreversible renal damage. TC 99-m Dimercaptosuccinic acid renal scintigraphy is the most sensitive method for diagnosing acute pyelonephritis. We designed a study to evaluate the ability of DMSA scan and ultrasonography to detect renal paranchymal lesion. Materials and Methods: 62 children 1 month t...
